In Local Area Networks(LANs), one of the popular and most commonly used methods for networking computers is Ethernet which uses copper cabling. In the early days, the Ethernet has a lower speed than the fiber optic cable.
But this situation changes according to the time. In early times, the maximum speed of an Ethernet was 10 Mbps( Megabytes per second ). But, a maximum speed of 100 Mbps has been provided by the ‘fast Ethernet’. Also, it provides a maximum speed of 1000 Mbps by the Gigabit Ethernet.

The answer to our above question is fast Ethernet. It provides a greater transmission speed than early times which has 10 Mbps. But this provides a maximum transmission speed of 100 Mbps.
Let’s we can enter into our topic, fast Ethernet. This standard usually referred to by IEEE 802.3u ( Fast Ethernet standard ) shows a number of advantages over the Ethernet. These include,

For all these reasons, this fast internet standard has been adopted by people quickly.
We can found the fast Ethernet standard in the network which uses the copper twisted-pair cable of category 5. But don’t think that it won’t work on other types of the network because it also works in the network which uses a fiber-optic cable. These types of cable are made with plastic or stands of glass which are thin.
The main characteristic of this cable compared to other cables is it provide a high-speed transmission. So for long-distance transmission, fiber-optic cables are used.
