Version 1, version 2 and version 3 were the various versions of VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) established. One of the main advantages of VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) is that they can add, delete or update the information about VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) in an easy manner. Information on VLAN can be synchronized by the VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol). The second advantage of VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) is that VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) can reduce the effort given by network administrator, which means the job of network administrator become less and is manageable.

In the management domains, VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) is getting organized. In an environment of VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) a single switch or several interconnected switches share the same single VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) domain. Some switches connected to some other domains and switches in various domains are not capable of sharing the VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) information they belong too.
