The article written in this section defines and briefly describes the Native VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) used in the network. Before discussing the topic Native VLAN let’s recollect the topics related to the one going to discuss.
The discussed topics are what are VLAN ? what are the connection links used in VLAN network, what is frame tagging, differentiating between the tagged and untagged frame networks, etc..
Native VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network2) is a concept used in old devices that do not support the VLANs in the system. For the backward comparing this concept was introduced and was a dot 1 Q concept.
The basic working of VLANs takes place as the frames used in native VLANs (Virtual Local Area Network) are not tagged frames, so when the frames are sent to the trunk connection link the older devices can understand the process.
And the untagged frames in the trunk connection links were received to the Native VLAN . By using the switch in the process the default behavior changes. For using the switch for configuration the global command named VLAN dot1q tag native is used.
With the help of an example, we can explain the working of the native VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network). Imagine that in the trunk connection link two switches are get connected. The connected workstations are provided to each of the two switches and are allocated to VLAN2 (Virtual Local Area Network2).
For the trunk connection link VLAN2 (Virtual Local Area Network2) is set as native VLAN .
The working takes place as to the workstation B the workstation A transfers the packets. The configured switch A will find that the A workstation belongs to the native VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) so the frames in the packets will be sent as untagged. On the trunk port, the switch B will accept the untagged frames.
So the switch B will imagine that the frames are from native VLAN (vlan2).
So by supposing that workstation B receives the packet from workstation A. By using the interface command switch port trunk native VLAN? Native VLAN can be set on any port.
The purpose of using the Native VLANs is, first of all, they are used to partition the networks to logically separate ones.

We can prevent the double tagging process by using the Native VLANs . In the network sections native VLAN can be defined as in the tagged port sometime the untagged frames arrive.
So when such frames arrive at the tagged port to handle it special VLAN configuration is used. Such a VLAN configuration is named as a native VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) . Through more than one or two switched traffics are carried through the native VLANs .
